What can replace cam2pc?

Cam2pc has been working brilliantly for many years, and I've yet to see anything that comes even close to what cam2pc does, especially in terms of its fantastic download-and-rename capabilities. (I do the rest in Picasa.)

Unfortunately, cam2pc is no longer maintained. I've seen mentions of IDdownloader and IDimager and these are allegedly "at least" as good as cam2pc, or even better. But there's no trial version, and I hesitate to shell out $30 (IDdownloader) or even $70 (IDimager) without a chance to try it out first.

Can someone provide more information? Reviews? Feedback?

I have found Zoner Photo Studio very good. It comes in three versions, Free, Home and Pro. A 30 day free trial is available for the paid versions. It does all cam2pc does and lots more, which cam2pc would probably be doing now if it wasn't abandoned. The Jpeg comments are very important to me and all the typing I did into cam2pc are readable in Zoner, sadly the reverse is not true - comments written in Zoner just show the word "UNICODE" in cam2pc :-(
Please give it a try and let us know how you get on.
