I like to have my pictures named as follows:
2003-12-29 [001].jpg
..
2003-12-29 [030].jpg
2003-12-30 [001].jpg
...
2003-12-30 [015].jpg
...

Unfortunately, I haven't found a way to reset the numbering per day when downloading from my camera (Is there a way?), so I have to go back and select all the pictures from each day and execute an Advanced Renaming... with the following template:
%Y-%m-%d [%{num:3}].%{ext}

For anything more than a few pictures, this takes FOREVER! It tells me immediately if a file will be overwritten with the renaming, so it can't be taking very long to determine the names. I can't figure out why it would take so long to just rename the files?

I'd love to see this sped up for 4.1, or even better, the addition of an option to reset the numbering for each new day when downloading. :)

it seems that some user experience this speed issue because of the thumbnail caching. It has been improved in 4.1 to be faster but I can't tell how much faster it will be because it was not really that slow on my PC. In the meantime you can disable the caching of the thumbnails by going to the Image Browser section of the Options.
