issues with 4.0

I am a long time cam2pc user. Well I got all excited and downloaded the new cam2pc 4.0. The new image browser looks very slick. I am impressed. However I am having severe problems. I was able to successfully download one compact flash card (128MB sandisk) to the computer with no difficulty. However, I am now unable to download pictures from 2nd card (340MB microdrive). When I insert the microdrive into the card reader and attempt to download, cam2pc locks up. Windows task manager does not "see" cam2pc until I hit the close program "X" on cam2pc image downloader, and then widows tells me that the program is not responding and CPU Usage is 100%. I then copied the DCIM directory from the microdrive to my c: drive and then pointed cam2pc there. Cam2pc still locked up. Tried rebooting and everything I could think of. Tried to re-download the contents of the 1st card again and cam2pc asked if I wanted to overwrite the previously copied pictures. Because of the trouble with that DCIM directory from the 2nd card I am inclined to believe that there is something in that directory that cam2pc doesn't like. Both cards have been formated in the camera.

I have tried to be as specific as I can to assist you in tracking down any possible glitches in the new cam2pc. Feel free to ask any questions that may help.

I am using cam2pc 4.0 freeware. Camera is a Minolta Dimage 7i. Computer is a Fujitsu P5000 laptop with Win XP home, 512MB, 60GB, Centrino 900mhz, and using the integrated compact flash slot. Was using cam2pc 3.1.2 without any complications.

Hello,

did you try to reinstall 3.1.2 and download the microdrive? There is probably one picture that cam2pc 4.0 does not like on the microdrive. Is the microdrive full?

Best regards,
nabocorp

Thanks nabocorp for the quick reply. Well I hate to uninstall 4.0 and use something older, I was hoping that it might be something simple, but I will give it a shot. I will try it and post my findings.

BTW, the microdrive is not full. It has 166MB on a 340MB microdrive. It has a variety of different file types (all created by the camera), .jpgs of several sizes, .mov, and a few control files that the camera created, etc. the card had been formated in the camera before using it.

166MB might be a bit too big to send it to me :-)

What, you mean 166MB wouldn't go through email? Seriously, I would be glad to send you a CD (through postal mail) with the DCIM directory from the microdrive if you would like.

What I wound up doing at this point:
I didn't have the 3.1.2 setup file so I used a copy of 3.0.1 that I did have - I actually tried to download what webattack.com said was 3.1.2 but during install it said it was 4.0 freeware - so I canceled that install and went with the 3.0.1 that I already had. Everything setup OK with it and it was able to download and rename the files from the microdrive with no problems.

Now I guess I will continue to use 3.0.1 for the time being. Sad, I was really liking the way 4.0 looked.
